Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do because it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be a sin offering. Romans 8:1-3
“Condemnation”, that is a pretty severe word. Condemnation to a convicted criminal means a prison sentence, death, restricted freedom, or other negative things. What the law does, is show us what sin is, and it is powerless to set us free, it only convicts us. We are all condemned when we disobey God’s laws.
Jesus Christ gives us life though, and sets us free from that law of sin and death. This verse says we are no longer condemned when we are in Christ.–No Condemnation for all the bad things we’ve done in disobedience to God. We have extreme forgiveness by the one who does have the power to free us from sin and death! What wonderful words of freedom. To the condemned, hope; to the weak flesh, victory! God’s ultimate love came in the form of Jesus Christ, who willingly took our sins upon his own back, and carried them for us.
We are no longer condemned, but set free, now what do we do? We owe Jesus our lives, let’s follow Him to the fullest extent that we can. Let’s try to “go and sin no more”. Jesus deserves our full devotion to follow Him.
Thank You, Lord, for Your extreme love, forgiveness, and mercy. Thank You for that freedom from sin and death. Thank You for life, real life!
