Wealth is Uncertain:

Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life. 1 Timothy 6:17-19

Wealth is uncertain in this world. It is God who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.

We are commanded to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous, willing to share what we have been given.

By living this way, we are ‘laying up treasure’ for ourselves. We will be building a firm foundation for the coming age.

Have you noticed how wonderful it feels to give something to someone? It is a way to show love. By giving, we receive a gift too. The person who receives the gift is helped, and the giver is also rewarded with the treasured gift of feeling good about what they have done.

I am not only talking of financial help. We can help people with tasks. We can help by giving food or clothing to someone in need, or by volunteering for charity. It makes a person feel good, and you can’t out-give God. It seems the more you give, the more is given.

Thank You, God, for the gift of giving. When we are able to help others, it is a good feeling. You are so wonderful and have blessed us with so many good things. Help us not to become arrogant, or put our hope in wealth. Help us to put our hope and trust in You, always!
