A Command from the Risen Savior:

And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature: He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, It shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick and they shall recover. St. Mark 16:15-18

After Jesus rose from the dead, he appeared unto the eleven disciples as they were eating.Jesus chastised them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they didn’t believe the messengers who were sent to tell them that He was alive.

These verses 15-18 are what Jesus said to the eleven disciples. He told them to go into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. He said if people believed and were baptized, they would be saved. If they didn’t they would be damned.

Then, Jesus told us what signs would follow the people who believed. They would cast out devils, speak with new tongues, pick up serpents, and if they drank something deadly, it wouldn’t hurt them. They would lay hands on the sick, and they would get well.

Immediately after Jesus spoke to the eleven, He was taken up to heaven and sat on the right hand of God.

The final verse in Mark states that the disciples obeyed Jesus, and went forth, preaching everywhere. The Lord was working with them, and the signs confirmed the faith of those who chose to follow Christ.

When I read this, I saw that even the disciples had a hard time believing that Christ rose from the dead. Thomas needed to put his fingers in the wounds of Jesus, and he needed to see Jesus in order to confirm his belief.

Jesus scolded Thomas, and said that people were blessed who believed without seeing.

Mary saw Jesus, and thought He was the gardener..She saw Jesus crucified, and her mind could not comprehend at that moment, that He was alive.

The Pharisees studied the laws of the Old Testament, and knew God’s word by heart. When God’s Word came in the flesh, many could not comprehend who He was, even with the miracles He did.

What does it take for one to believe what seems impossible?

How do we get the faith that moves mountains?

Our faith comes from God. He will give to us generously if we ask.

One man was asked by Jesus, if he believed: Mark 9:23,24

23 Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.

24 And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears, Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.

That is the answer to receiving the faith that moves mountains— making your request known to God, and having a sincere desire to find faith..

Believe in the impossible, be baptized, be saved! Let your life be used of God to lead others to salvation with the faith that displays God’s mighty works!

Dear Jesus, thank You for Your saving grace. Help thou my unbelief! I believe, but I am asking for that kind of faith that moves mountains, and makes a difference in this world. I believe that You died for me, rose again, and are at the right hand of God, interceding on my behalf. I believe You are preparing a place for me. You have done many miracles in my life. Please use me to display Your power, mercy, grace, and love to others.  Thank You!

  1. A good reminder of Jesus’s sacrifice that we might be saved, and how to receive and exercise faith in order to walk in His power, not for our own glory, but that God, the Lord Jesus and the Holy Ghost might be glorified.
