Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, 2 saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.”Matthew 2:1,2
When the wise men had made it known that they were looking for the King of the Jews, Herod took interest.
The wise men were looking for the little baby who was born King of Kings and Lord of Lords, in order to worship Him.
Herod told the wise men that when they found Him, they should return, to let him know where the child was, so he could worship Him too.
Herod had no intentions of worshiping Jesus, because after the wise men found the child, they were divinely warned in a dream that they should not return to Herod.
The wise men were guided by a star to the town of Bethlehem to find the little King. The Bible tells us that the star went before them until it stood over the house where the child was.
The wise men gave valuable gifts to the little King Child, and they fell down and worshiped Him.
Herod was angry that the wise men did not return to him, and he had every male child in Bethlehem and the surrounding area, under the age of two, killed.
Divine intervention followed the life of Jesus.
Joseph was warned to take Jesus to Egypt, before Herod had the little babies killed. Joseph had a dream when it was time to return to Israel. He was guided to live in the town of Nazareth, as Jesus would be called a Nazarene.
A guiding light, an angry King, Wise Men, Bethlehem, Nazareth, Egypt, Mary, and Joseph, angels, dreams– they all worked together to weave the life of Jesus. It was predetermined where He would live, who He was born to, where He would go, and what He would do. Jesus displayed the perfect will of God from birth to death while on this earth.
The perfect plan of God involves each one of us. It is a very wise thing to seek for Jesus and find Him. He isn’t far from any of us, and His yoke is easy, His burden light.
Matthew 11:29-30 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
As it has been said, “Wise men still search for Jesus”.
Dear Lord, as Christmas approaches, and we remember the greatest gift that was given, help us to share your light and salvation. May Your purpose prevail. Forgive us our sins, and help us to forgive others. Direct our paths, and help us to stand firm in You. Give us the full armor of God to protect us, and keep us in Your care. In Jesus’s Name, Amen.
