Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. James 1:12
Two words stand out in this verse: endureth and promised.
When I think of endurance, I think of a race, where the body pushes on, though it is tired and losing strength, until the finish line is crossed. Paul reminds us of this endurance race too, in Philippians 3: 14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
If we love God and ‘press on’ and endure temptation, we have a great reward. We are promised the crown of life.
Endurance is not an easy thing. In our weakness though, God is strong! 2 Peter 2:9 The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished:
We are guaranteed that there will be temptation in our lives, but God provides a way out for us.
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. 1 Cor. 10:13
Revelation 3:10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.
Dear Lord, help me to remember Your strength when I am weak. I appreciate everything that You’ve done. I believe Your Word, and pray that Your will be done. Amen.
