When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”
“Where, O death, is your victory?
Where, O death, is your sting?”
The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. 1 Corinthians 15:54-58
I had a good friend who once told me the saying, “Only one life, will soon be past, Only what’s done for Christ will last!”
These verses in Corinthians are a reminder that life is perishable and mortal.
With Christ though, we have been clothed with immortality, and we are imperishable, because he has had the victory over death.
Jesus was also victorious over sin, and has the power to forgive us our sins! He has already won the ultimate victory, and if we have Christ in us, we are victorious too!
These verses tell us that whatever we do for Christ is not in vain, and we should give ourselves fully to the work of the Lord!
Dear Jesus, help us to live for You, giving ourselves fully to the work You have prepared for us. You are victorious, and with You, we too, have victory! Help us to realize Your awesome power and love. Amen.
