The Gospel:

001

The word ‘gospel’ is defined by Dictionary.com in several ways.
One of the definitions of the word ‘gospel’ means glad tidings, especially concerning salvation and the kingdom of God as announced to the world by Christ.
The reason I had to look up the word ‘gospel’ was because I understood that it was the message of Christ, but I was confused when I read that Jesus preached the gospel. There are several times that this is mentioned. One verse is in Matthew 11:5:

The blind receive their sight, and the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, and the poor have the gospel preached to them.

And another in Mark 1:14:

Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,…

Jesus preached the gospel of the good news of the kingdom of God. He also encouraged His followers to do the same:

Mark 16:

15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

I am writing my devotions today, to encourage all Christians to preach the gospel (good tidings, especially concerning salvation and the kingdom of God).

I would also like to bring attention to a family that for generations has preached the message of salvation.

You can read about Will Graham, Billy Graham’s grandson, in China, preaching the gospel at http://billygraham.org/gallery/will-graham-shares-the-good-news-in-china/

There are wonderful pictures of his trip.

Jiangsu Province Christian Council invited Will Graham to visit China, with the approval of the Chinese government. He was invited to speak in the city of Wuxi as part of a Chinese New Year celebration event called the Good Shepherd Outreach.

I love seeing the faces of people who are hearing God’s Word, and desiring His salvation.

Billy Graham’s wife, Ruth Bell Graham was born in China to a missionary family. I am so amazed to see the fourth generation still preaching the gospel faithfully. It is such an encouragement!

Thank you, God, for the gospel. To hear the words of salvation, and to hear about the kingdom of heaven, to hear about Your hope and love, those words are so powerful! Help us to be faithful in preaching the gospel. I know that  when the gospel has been preached to the ends of the earth, the end will come, and Your kingdom will prevail. May Your perfect will be done.Amen.
