Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
2 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.
5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Jesus was speaking words of comfort to his disciples. Soon, He would no longer be with them, as He was going to the Father. He gave a wonderful going-away message to them.
First, He told them not to let their hearts be troubled. His death on the cross was going to be hard for the disciples to understand. Jesus was tortured, mocked, whipped, spat upon, He was pierced by a sword, and all our burdens were cast upon Him. Jesus knew the disciples would be ‘heart-broken’.
Jesus also tells them that their belief in God would be an encouragement to them, and that they should believe in Him too.Because, in God’s house, there are many dwelling places for them, and He was going there to prepare a place for them. And, if this were not so, He would have told them.
Not only is Jesus preparing a place, but He will also return, and receive them unto Himself, so they can be with Him.
Then, He tells the disciples that where He’s going, they already know the way. But, some of them are confused, Thomas speaks up and says that they don’t know where Jesus is going, so how can they know the way?
Here is the most important message Jesus gives to them and us, for anyone who wonders about ‘the way to God’s Kingdom’.– Jesus makes it clear that He is the way, the truth, and the life, and that no one comes to the Father, but by Him.
There is no other way. You cannot get to heaven by your own merit, because no one is good enough. We all have sinned, and fall short of God’s grace. We all needed to be saved by Jesus Christ. He is the perfect sacrifice, the only sacrifice for our sins that God will accept.
I believe Jesus when He said that He was the only Way to the Father.
Dear Jesus, I thank You for the gift of salvation that You paid so dearly for. I believe it when You say that You are the only way to the Father, and that no man can come to God, except through You. This part of scripture is such an encouragement for all who believe. We know that You will return, and that there is room in Heaven for all of us, and that You will take us to be with You there. I pray for God’s will to be done, and that You would keep us from temptation, and deliver us from the evil one. In Your Precious Name, Amen.
