John 15:17-19 King James Version
These things I command you, that ye love one another.
If the world hate you, ye know that it hated me before it hated you.
If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.
I like to read Worthy News to catch up on world events. I had a little extra time and followed some links. One article I came across was from February of 2001, entitled ‘Persecution of Christians Growing in the United States’. It was written by Thomas Horn.
This article talks about Christian persecution, but it is also about the state of our nation and is very relevant to the things happening today. This article is a measuring stick of the advancement of persecution of Christians in our country.
Textbooks in the schools are eliminating teaching about the Christian influence in the founding of the U.S. This article also documents what the Supreme Court had to say about our nation in 1892:
JUST THINK OF IT
America’s Founding Fathers understood that all government is based on either a theistic or anti-theistic foundation. Adepts of history like George Washington understood that countries whose systems of government embrace national anti-theistic views ultimately come to ruin. Strong religious convictions therefore played a role in the development of the United States, which was established on Christian principles and open to all people of good will. In 1892 this was argued before the Supreme Court of the United States. After exhaustive deliberation, the Court said, “Our laws and our institutions must necessarily be based upon and embody the teachings of the Redeemer of mankind. [It is] impossible that it should be otherwise; and in this sense and to this extent our civilization and our institutions are emphatically Christian.”
Imagine that. A nation whose laws and institutions are based on the teachings of the Redeemer of mankind. Why, such a place would surely become the leader in education, invention, and the arts. Such a place would probably become a haven of religious liberty for more types and religions of people than has ever existed anywhere or at any time on earth. Instead of religious persecution and intolerance, such a place would offer hope and opportunity to the huddled masses of the earth.
This was the end of the article, but you can read it in its entirety here.
Dear God, our nation has been backsliding, and we need Your intervention and influence. Children are losing their parents to divorce, alcohol, depression, drugs, violence, poverty, and more. Parents are losing their children to the same things. Instead of turning to You, they are finding temporary replacements that pull them further from Your love and truth. We are reaping the things that our nation has sown. I pray that people would seek you, turn from their ways, repent, and be reunited with You, so that we can experience your blessings. This world needs Your help. In the name of Your precious Son, Amen. May Your will be done.
