Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God. 3 John 1:11
I was reading the news, and saw that young people are trying to emulate Kylie Jenner with a disturbing new trend to get big lips. You can read the story here. The kids are putting their lips inside of bottles, and sucking to create a vacuum. They get a ‘big lip’ effect that lasts for a couple hours, long enough to video tape, or take a picture of themselves. The only problem is that some are breaking blood vessels, and bruising their mouths to get this effect. Some even have irreversible damage.
It is not a pretty sight.
Better than imitating big lips, is imitating people of great faith. Some of the most beautiful woman to me, are Mother Teresa of Calcutta, Irena Sendler, Corrie tenBoom, Esther, Ruth, and Mary in the Bible. It is a rare treasure to see a woman of virtue and faith. Their inner beauty shines through to the outside, brightening the darkest world.
If you want to get noticed for being different, emulate a faithful Christian, or better yet, try to imitate Jesus. You will get noticed! Maybe not loved by the world, but definitely noticed. People will be able to tell that you are from God, because you are doing what is good.
I am not sure what the ‘big lip’ effect will accomplish, except for the painful bruising, and broken blood vessels.
Dear God, I pray for this world. I pray that they would have a desire to do good, and imitate faithful people who love you. There is no lasting value in imitating the things of this world. There is only one life, and it will soon be past, and only what’s done for Christ will last. I pray for Your will to be done, and that You would keep us from temptation, and deliver us from evil. In the wonderful name of Jesus, Amen.
