Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man. Luke 21:36
These are the words of Jesus. He warns us to watch and pray always. Then, He tells us why,– so that we might be accounted worthy to escape all these things that will come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.
Heaven and earth will pass away, but His words will by no means pass away. In Luke, Chapter 21, Jesus tells us what the end times will look like.
In preparation for Christ’s return, we need to watch for the signs that will signal the end, just as we can judge the seasons, and know that winter is approaching by watching the fig tree.
Jesus tells us when we see certain things, we are to take heed, lest our hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on us unexpectedly. For it will come as a snare on all those who dwell on the face of the whole earth.( No one who is living on earth will escape the great and dreadful day of the Lord) Jesus is coming in judgment.
His advice is for us to watch and pray always.
What are the signs?
Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. ×
There will be great earthquakes in various places, and famines ×
Before all these things, they will lay their hands on you and persecute you delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons. You will be brought before kings and rulers for My name’s sake. But it will turn out for you as an occasion for testimony.
You will be betrayed even by parents and brothers, relatives and friends: and they will put some of you to death. ×
But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation is near. ×
These are the days of vengeance, that all things which are written my be fulfilled.
Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.
There will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; men’s hearts failing them from fear and expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
Then they will see the son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.
Jesus’s words are both a hope and a warning.
Dear Lord, help me to heed Your words, to pray and watch always. I know that Your return is near. I pray for workers for the harvest, and for God’s will to be done. In Your precious name. Amen. Thank You for Your words that will never fail.
Watch and Pray Always!
