2 Corinthians 2:14-17 (Easy to Read Version)
But thanks be to God, who always leads us in victory through Christ. God uses us to spread his knowledge everywhere like a sweet-smelling perfume.15 Our offering to God is to be the perfume of Christ that goes out to those who are being saved and to those who are being lost. 16 To those who are being lost, this perfume smells like death, and it brings them death. But to those who are being saved, it has the sweet smell of life, and it brings them life. So who is good enough to do this work? 17 Certainly not those who are out there selling God’s message for a profit! But we don’t do that. With Christ’s help we speak God’s truth honestly, knowing that we must answer to him.
This picture is of a lilac bush in my backyard. It smells so sweet! It is one of my favorite fragrances, next to wild roses.
Jesus Christ has the aroma of life, freedom, forgiveness of sins, and He has a beauty of kindness, goodness, and mercy! He is a sweet fragrance that brings life to those who are saved.
To those who are perishing, the thought of Christ is as the aroma of death. Many are offended by Jesus, because they choose not to accept the beauty of new life in Christ. They think they will find satisfaction somewhere else, or maybe they feel they do not need to be saved? For whatever reason they have for not knowing Christ, I feel sorry that they cannot know Him.
Oh how I choose to walk in the garden of the Lord, because I have smelled the sweet fragrance of life in Him. I have basked in the warm sunshine of His great love which brings out the scents of His beauty! I cannot get enough of the Lord’s sweet fragrance!
Dear God, I pray for those who do not know You, that You would send workers for the harvest. I pray that the message would be freely shared with all who need You. Help us, as Christians, to be good ambassadors for Your kingdom, bringing the sweet fragrance of Christ’s love to the world. Help us to be a light in the darkness, to be truth in the world, and I pray for Your Holy Spirit to guide our actions and thoughts in You. In the sweet name of Jesus, Amen.
