Come, Holy Spirit, I Need You!

Holy Spirit

Galatians 5:22,23

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.

I have to quote from the Billy Graham online devotions, a story about a boy, and how his dad explained the presence of the Holy Spirit to him:

Walter Knight tells the story about a little boy who had recently received Christ. “Daddy, how can I believe in the Holy Spirit when I have never seen Him?” asked Jim. “I’ll show you how,” said his father, who was an electrician. Later Jim went with his father to the power plant where he was shown the generators. “This is where the power comes from to heat our stove and to give us light. We cannot see the power, but it is in that machine and in the power lines,” said the father. “I believe in electricity,” said Jim. “Of course you do,” said his father, “but you don’t believe in it because you see it. You believe in it because you see what it can do. Likewise, you can believe in the Holy Spirit because you can see what He does in people’s lives when they are surrendered to Christ and possess His power.”

The Holy Spirit’s work in a person,– his love, brotherly kindness, goodness, faithfulness, joy, patience, perseverance, hope, and faith are signs that the Holy Spirit is present in that person.

One of my favorite songs is ‘Come, Holy Spirit’. They lyrics are so beautiful and meaningful.

COME HOLY SPIRIT

Come, Holy Spirit, I need you
Come, sweet Spirit, I pray
Come in your strength and your power
Come in your own gentle way

Come as a rest to the weary
Come as a balm to the sore
Come, Lord, as strength to my weakness
Fill me with joy evermore

Come, Holy Spirit, I need you
Come, sweet Spirit, I pray
Come in your strength and your power
Come in your own gentle way

Come like a spring in the desert
Come to the withered of soul
Lord, let your sweet healing power
Touch me and make me whole

Come, Holy Spirit, I need you
Come, sweet Spirit, I pray
Come in your strength and your power
Come in your own gentle way

Come in your own gentle way

That is my prayer,–Come, Holy Spirit! I need you!

Dear God, You are the giver of all good gifts. As Christians, we need the presence of Your Holy Spirit. Jesus promised us the Comforter. I have grieved the Holy Spirit in my sinfulness as a youth. I know that He is with me now, and I pray for His work to manifest in me the patience, faith, hope, love, brotherly kindness, goodness, and mercy that would be so beneficial in my life, in order to make a difference for You in this world. I pray that You would send workers for the harvest. I ask humbly in the Precious name of Your Son, Jesus. Amen.

    • I need the presence and power of the Holy Spirit too! Like that electricity running through the wires to our homes, I need God’s energy to run through my veins! I hope you will be full of that bountiful, life-changing electricity of the Holy Spirit of God, too! Thank you for commenting, and may the Lord bless you always!

    • I have felt that ‘electricity’ of the Holy Spirit. Sometimes as conviction, or a warning not to say or do something, and at other times a ‘bolt’ of boldness to speak when I didn’t want to. I have felt ‘propelled’ to comfort people, help people, and share the gospel. There is definitely ‘power’ in the Holy Spirit!

    • The Holy Spirit is so needed to fulfill our Christian walk on this earth. I so want to be on fire for the Lord, and the Holy Spirit is part of that ‘fire’. Thanks, Steve for commenting.

      • The Holy Spirit is God dwelling inside of our beings. He will guide us whether we are looking for it or not.

We place ourselves under His control. Thank you for your comments too Dawn!
