Who is it that overcomes the world? Only the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.

1 John 5:5

This is an absolute statement. There is only one way to overcome the world, and that is by believing that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.

Overcoming this world starts with belief in the One who can save us.

Savior is defined in the online dictionary:

  1. a person who saves someone or something (especially a country or cause) from danger, and who is regarded with the veneration of a religious figure.
    synonyms: rescuer, liberator, deliverer, emancipator;

champion, knight in shining armor, friend in need, good Samaritan
“he was hailed as the country’s savior”
    • (in Christianity) God or Jesus Christ as the redeemer of sin and saver of souls.
      noun: Saviour; noun: Savior

Let us overcome this world, and believe in the saving power of Jesus Christ, God’s Son!

Dear God, we needed a Savior! Thank You that You have given us One who will help us to overcome this world! I believe that Jesus is at Your right hand, interceding on my behalf, and preparing a place for me, and I thank You for Your great love, mercy, and forgiveness. I pray that people would repent of their many sins, and find forgiveness through Jesus, Your Son. Amen.

What are the Requirements?

26 Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless.27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. James 1:26,27

Every two years, I have to get a physical to keep up my Class A CDL Driver’s License.

Two years went by really fast since the last time I saw a doctor.

In a Department of Transportation physical, your eyes are checked, your hearing, blood pressure, blood sugar, and you are checked for color blindness. Your liver is checked for swelling, and you are asked many questions about previous health conditions on a form. You are asked about any substance abuse or mental problems.

You have to meet all the requirements, or else you cannot drive a vehicle over 26,000 pounds on the Interstate.

I met all the requirements, and won’t have to have another physical for a couple years!

What are the requirements of true religion?

We are to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep ourselves from being polluted by the world! It is difficult to live in this world, without being affected by the sin in it.

Each day we need to put on the full armor of God, and have His Holy Spirit within us, so that we can extinguish all the fiery darts of the evil one. It is not easy to pass the true religion test. We are offered forgiveness when we fail.

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness!

With God’s Spirit in us, there is a doctor in the house, and He is the greatest Physician of them all!

Thank You, God, for giving us the armor we need to live in this world. You have given us salvation, faith, righteousness, truth, and peace. You have given us Your Word, which is the sword of the Spirit. With this armor, and Your great help, we can extinguish those fiery darts that the evil one throws at us. I pray that You would give me a right Spirit within me, to be wise as a serpent, but gentle as a dove. Help me to not be deceived. I pray for Your guidance in helping others. There are many widows and orphans, and this world needs Your help. I pray for Your presence, and for the means and the wisdom to know how to help those who are in distress. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Life is Short!

You have made my days like handbreadths; for you, the length of my life is like nothing.” Yes, everyone, no matter how firmly he stands, is merely a puff of wind.

Psalm 39:6 (Complete Jewish Bible)

This life on earth is very short, merely a puff of wind in the face of eternity.

God’s design before Adam and Eve sinned, was for man to live forever.

Can we really see the enormous consequence of the first sin, of disobedience to God’s Word? It ushered in death, sin, sorrow, and separation from God. From the time we are born, our mortal clock is ticking, and time is running out.

Our bodies will die, but our souls are eternal. We will either rise to be raised with Christ, or we will die in our sins, separated from God, forever.

Sometimes, there are only two choices we get to make.– Either we are slaves to sin, or slaves of righteousness; either we are saved, or condemned; either we are forgiven, or not forgiven. Sometimes ‘gray’ areas are not allowed, and there are absolutes.

There is only one way to the Father, God, and that is through Jesus Christ.

In our earthly bodies, this life is short, but in our spiritual souls, eternity is a very long time.

Dear God, life on this earth is short. We are dying from the time we are born. Our earthly bodies will perish, but thank You fro the gift of life through Jesus, for our eternal souls. Thank You for redemption through Jesus Christ, and for Your grace, love, and mercy. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

A Temporary Resident:

Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; before, you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. Dear friends, I urge you as aliens and temporary residents not to give in to the desires of your old nature, which keep warring against you; but to live such good lives among the pagans that even though they now speak against you as evil-doers, they will, as a result of seeing your good actions, give glory to God on the Day of his coming.

1 Peter 2: 10-12

I am reminded that I will always be ‘a foreigner’ on this earth. I do not belong here, because I have received mercy from God, Himself, and have become one of ‘His people’. I do not conform to the label of ‘American’, I am a ‘Christian’, and my King is Jesus Christ.

While on this earth, I will always live among ‘pagans’, and they will speak of me as an evil-doer. My hope is in Jesus Christ, the redemption that has been offered to me, as a former ‘pagan’. (Merriam -Webster defines ‘pagan’ as: one who has little or no religion and who delights in sensual pleasures and material goods :  an irreligious or hedonistic person)

I have been set free from the slavery of sin, and been redeemed by my Lord, Jesus Christ. He paid such a great price for my freedom. I am a citizen of Heaven, now, by the saving power of Jesus, God’s Son.

Peter calls us ‘friends’ and tells us we are aliens and temporary residents, and he urges us not to give in to the desires of our old nature, which constantly war against us. Instead, we should live such good lives among the ‘nonreligious’ of this world, that even though they condemn us, they will give glory to God on the Day of His coming, because of our good actions.

We may not see them glorify God in our lifetime, but every knee will bow, every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, when He returns.

Dear God, thank You for the great advice that Peter gives us. Help us to live good lives among the pagans, and help us to react with good actions to the glory of You. Also, help us not to give in to the old nature that wars against us.. I pray for the power of Your Holy Spirit in me, to be a good ambassador for You. Keep me from being deceived, and from temptation, and deliver us from the evil one. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Then Peter, Filled with the Holy Spirit:

I am inspired to read the accounts of the early church in Acts 3 and 4. Peter and John give an account of what happened at the temple in Jerusalem, one day:

Peter and John go to the temple at three in the afternoon, and come upon a lame beggar, who is asking for money at the temple gates.

With the power of God in him, Peter heals the lame man. It is interesting to note that this is what he tells the beggar:

Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.”

This is followed by Peter’s action:

Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong.

This is followed by the lame man’s action:

He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God.

The people who witnessed this event also reacted to it.

10 they recognized him as the same man who used to sit begging at the temple gate called Beautiful, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.

From that point, a lot of things happen. Peter is able to explain that it wasn’t his power that healed the lame man, but that it was by the power of Christ, who they put to death, but Who God raised from the dead.

The temple leaders, the Sadducees, had Peter and John thrown in jail, but many men believed what the two had spoken, and they were counted with the five thousand Christians who believed in Jesus.

Here is the amazing response Peter gives to the leaders and rulers of Jerusalem, when he is given the opportunity to speak:

Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them: “Rulers and elders of the people! If we are being called to account today for an act of kindness shown to a man who was lame and are being asked how he was healed,10 then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed. 11 Jesus is

“‘the stone you builders rejected,
    which has become the cornerstone.’

12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”

This story is helpful to us as Christians, today!

The leaders realize that Peter and John are unschooled, ordinary men.

13 When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus.

The man who was healed is standing before them, and the rulers are undecided of what to do with Peter and John.

They decide to release them with the warning not to speak to anyone about Jesus:

17 But to stop this thing from spreading any further among the people, we must warn them to speak no longer to anyone in this name.”

Peter and John truthfully tell the leaders that they cannot do that:

18 Then they called them in again and commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus. 19 But Peter and John replied, “Which is right in God’s eyes: to listen to you, or to him? You be the judges! 20 As for us, we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard.”

21 After further threats they let them go. They could not decide how to punish them, because all the people were praising God for what had happened. 22 For the man who was miraculously healed was over forty years old.

I really love the response from Peter, that we need to do what is right in God’s eyes, and listen to Him. I also love how he states that they cannot help speaking about what they have seen and heard.

Dear God, help us to put these words in our hearts. Help us to be so close to You, that we cannot help speaking of what we have seen, read, and heard. I pray that we would have Your power in us to make a difference in this world, and that we would obey You, and listen to You, and do what is right. Keep us from temptation, deliver us from evil, and help us to be good ambassadors, proclaiming Your glory! In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Repent, Be Changed for the Better!

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Acts 2:38

I would like to focus on the word repent for a moment. According to the word means:

to feel such sorrow for sin or fault as to be disposed to change one’s life for the better; be penitent. to remember or regard with self-reproach or contrition: to repent one’s injustice to another. to feel sorry for; regret

In the book of Acts, the disciples witnessed the full power of the Holy Spirit, when He appeared as cloven tongues of fire. All of a sudden, the men on whom the tongues fell, spoke in languages that men outside the house could understand. Devout Jews from many nations happened to be in Jerusalem, and could hear their own language. It was assumed that the men who were filled with the Spirit were drunk, but Peter explained that:

15 For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.

16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;

17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:

19 And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:

20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and notable day of the Lord come:

21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

I pray that God’s Spirit would descend on us, who are Christians, that we would be powerful, effective witnesses for Christ.

Dear God, I pray that men and women everywhere would hear the message of salvation, that they would repent, and be saved. I pray that the dead in sins would come to life with the saving power of Jesus Christ! I pray for Ambassadors who would faithfully proclaim Your word, and not shrink back. Keep us from being deceived, and may Your will be done. In the Precious Name of Jesus! Amen.

Awakening from a Peaceful Sleep:

My schedule changed at my job, but I was looking at the old one, so I went to work yesterday. I was there an hour, before I realized I wasn’t supposed to be. It was kind of nice to know I could go home, rest, and relax.

I took my son and his friend out to eat, then went to a thrift store to look around.

My son went to the river to swim with his friend, as it was so hot.

I decided to go out and lay in a hammock, under our shady maple trees. It felt so good, and I fell asleep. It was like God was cradling me in His big arms, and the world was at peace.

Unfortunately, while I was laying there, atrocities were occurring. Christians were being beheaded for their faith, babies were murdered by abortion, the elderly were being abused by the people they are paying to care for them. People are defying their Creator, God, and living such sinful lives, and children are suffering for the sins of their parents. Not all is well in the world.

Soon, the Lord will return to earth in judgment. That is a fact. It will be a dreadful day for many people, and it breaks my heart that people refuse to see their sins, turn from them, repent, and be saved from that day, and from God’s terrible judgment.

The four horsemen of the apocalypse paint a very frightening picture. There is a horsemen on a white horse, set out for conquest, to take over the nations. The one on the fiery red horse takes away peace from the earth, and people kill each other. The rider on the black horse brings in poverty, as things of necessity rise in price.

The last horse is pale, and the rider is Death, and Hell is not far behind him. He has the power over a fourth of the earth to kill by famine, sword, plague, and wild beasts.

Already we can see these things happen. ISIS is killing God’s people. They are being beheaded for their faith. Treaties are being made by leaders who are bent on an unholy conquest for a One World Order. The price of necessities have risen considerably, and without the aid of government programs, many people cannot afford the things they need.

There are famines, plagues, and people killing each other. It is hard to find peace on earth. There is a rise of reports of animals killing people. Go to to read more about wild beast attacks occurring more often.

Right after the Supreme Court decision to legalize same sex marriages, there was a violent thunderstorm localized to the D.C. area. People described it as the most frightening storm they had witnessed. There is scorching heat in the Northwestern United States. California, the place where many of our crops are raised, is in a severe drought.

It is time to get right with God, if you haven’t already. These things are all frightening, but God’s wrath at the end, will be the most frightening as Revelation 6 tells us:

12 I watched as he opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake. The sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red, 13 and the stars in the sky fell to earth, as figs drop from a fig tree when shaken by a strong wind. 14 The heavens receded like a scroll being rolled up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place.

15 Then the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and everyone else, both slave and free, hid in caves and among the rocks of the mountains. 16 They called to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us[f] from the face of him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! 17 For the great day of their[g] wrath has come, and who can withstand it?”

People will try to hide from God, but they cannot. They want to die for fear, but they cannot. They will meet their Maker, God, and without Christ in them, they will face a terrible punishment.

It doesn’t have to be that way, because God is willing to forgive. Just repent, turn from your sins. Ask for God’s grace and forgiveness. Jesus Christ took your punishment and mine, and has the power to forgive us our sins.  He is not desiring that anyone perish, but that all have life, and have it abundantly.

Dear God, I pray that people will repent, before that terrible day of judgment. You have given people so much opportunity to know You, and accept Your great forgiveness, but for those who have not heard the gospel, I pray for workers for the harvest. I pray for souls to be saved, for people to accept the forgiveness that Jesus offers us. I pray for Your mercy, and that You would be with us, protect us from evil, and from the evil one, and keep us from being deceived. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
