Throw Off Sin:

 Hebrews 12: 1-3:

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

We can get so ‘tangled’ up in sin.

I watched a spider through our kitchen window, one evening. It built a magnificent web. It was a huge ‘popcorn’ or ‘chicken’ spider.

Soon, a fly was trapped in the web, and the spider quickly confronted the captive. He began wrapping him up with a continuous web, until the fly was encased, and completely entangled.

Many people are oblivious to ‘webs’. I am sure the fly was not expecting that sticky web to capture him, but it did. It also brought him to a terrible end.

We need to be aware of our enemy, the devil. He is on the hunt, looking for someone to devour! Once trapped in sin, He makes quick work to encase us in it, and entrap us, making it almost impossible to get out of it.

We luckily have a man of action, who cares enough to rescue us from the devil. Jesus is our Savior, our Redeemer, our Rescuer!  He knows what it is like to be surrounded by His enemies. He endured the cross, He endured opposition from sinners. He also conquered all these things, and is an example, and a mentor, that we can fix our eyes on, so that we do not become weary and lose heart.

He knows how to escape the devil’s web, and is willing to help us, and deliver us from it too.

God’s Word is a great weapon against sin. Psalm 119:11, tell us, “Thy word have I hid in my heart, that I might not sin against thee.”

Know your enemy’s tactics, put on your armor, and put God’s Word in your heart. Don’t become weary, keep your eyes on the prize, and remember what Jesus endured for our sake.

Dear God, I am feeling weary. I pray for your strength and help, and keep me from being deceived. Direct my paths, and keep my mind and heart on You, on the joy that is to come. Forgive me of all my sins, and keep me in Your care. Thank You for giving me victory through Jesus, Amen.

Carnal or Spiritual; Death or Life:

For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Romans 8:6

Definition of CARNAL from Merriam Webster Online Dictionary:
a :  relating to or given to crude bodily pleasures and appetites
b :  marked by sexuality <carnal love>

God’s Word stands. It is a promise to us. In this verse, we are advised that a carnal mind is death. A mind filled with crude sexual pleasures and appetites is death.

We are bombarded in the news, in movies, in the various forms of media, with people sporting a carnal mind. Even in politics, the message that is forced upon us is that we should live a carnal lifestyle, and accept it. Maybe politicians don’t read or react to God’s Word, but it is clear that this nature and mindset is death.

What is life and peace?—To be spiritually minded.

Here are some of the definitions for spiritual:

1. Of, relating to, consisting of, or having the nature of spirit; not material; supernatural: spiritual power.
2. Of, concerned with, or affecting the soul: spiritual guidance; spiritual growth.
3. Not concerned with material or worldly things: led a spiritual life.
4. Of or belonging to a religion; sacred: spiritual practices; spiritual music.
The Words of Jesus in Matthew 4:4:
But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoeverthings are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoeverthings are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Philippians 4:8

It is important what we think. It leads to life and peace, or death.

Let us be Spiritually minded, and have life and peace!

Dear God, I pray that You would help me to think on good, lovely, honest, virtuous, praiseworthy, and ‘just’ things. Fill my mind with spiritual songs. Help me to meditate on Your Words. Keep me from evil thoughts and a carnal mind. Thank You for Your forgiveness, love, and mercy. In the name of Jesus, amen.

I am going to be gone for a week, but will return, God willing, with some stories of my adventures.

May God be with you all and may He encourage you in your faith.

What are the Requirements?

26 Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless.27 Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. James 1:26,27

Every two years, I have to get a physical to keep up my Class A CDL Driver’s License.

Two years went by really fast since the last time I saw a doctor.

In a Department of Transportation physical, your eyes are checked, your hearing, blood pressure, blood sugar, and you are checked for color blindness. Your liver is checked for swelling, and you are asked many questions about previous health conditions on a form. You are asked about any substance abuse or mental problems.

You have to meet all the requirements, or else you cannot drive a vehicle over 26,000 pounds on the Interstate.

I met all the requirements, and won’t have to have another physical for a couple years!

What are the requirements of true religion?

We are to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep ourselves from being polluted by the world! It is difficult to live in this world, without being affected by the sin in it.

Each day we need to put on the full armor of God, and have His Holy Spirit within us, so that we can extinguish all the fiery darts of the evil one. It is not easy to pass the true religion test. We are offered forgiveness when we fail.

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness!

With God’s Spirit in us, there is a doctor in the house, and He is the greatest Physician of them all!

Thank You, God, for giving us the armor we need to live in this world. You have given us salvation, faith, righteousness, truth, and peace. You have given us Your Word, which is the sword of the Spirit. With this armor, and Your great help, we can extinguish those fiery darts that the evil one throws at us. I pray that You would give me a right Spirit within me, to be wise as a serpent, but gentle as a dove. Help me to not be deceived. I pray for Your guidance in helping others. There are many widows and orphans, and this world needs Your help. I pray for Your presence, and for the means and the wisdom to know how to help those who are in distress. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

Only a Season:

My sister took this picture of the sky. I loved the light and color, and the one lone tree. This was a frosty landscape, in the winter, in the Midwestern United States.

I could relate to the tree, barren and cold, standing alone, in the face of the setting sun.

It stands against the harsh winds, and bitter cold. It knows that soon, spring will come. and its leaves will return, and it will be full of life again.

I am waiting for ‘spring’ too. God is preparing a place for His people. He has not abandoned us. As I view His beauty in His creation, I await for that heavenly home.– Heaven!

Like that tree, I have to live in the season I am experiencing, but there is hope and a future awaiting.

Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. 1 Thessalonians 4:17

Dear God, help me to stay focused on You. You will not leave me, nor forsake me. One day, I will be with You. Let me be a light in this world, an ambassador, and a worker, while there is time. Help people to repent and turn to You for salvation and help. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

Jesus Came to Call Sinners to Repentance:

For many who do not know me, I am a ‘redeemed’ sinner. I was reclaimed from the ‘trash heap’. What I and other people thought as ‘junk’, somehow God saw ‘treasure’. He polished me off and cherished me, enough for His own Son to die for me.

I did many things I am ashamed of. I found that I needed saving. My sins brought me to ‘the pit of despair’. Jesus offered me grace, mercy, forgiveness, hope, love, and faith.

I took it gladly, and I hold on tight to it, because I have seen the value of redemption.

It is like winning the lottery. I was dead in my sins, and found Christ, who made me eternally and spiritually alive!

Jesus came for sinners, but He didn’t want us to remain in our sins. He raises us up, out of the grave, where sin had put us, and calls us to a new life in Him. It is a privilege to follow Christ, to let Him lead me, guide me, and walk beside me.

I hope that if you desire a Savior, a friend closer than a brother, and a help in times of trouble, that you will grab hold of Jesus, and experience the power that raises the dead to life!

Dear God, thank You that Jesus had the power to redeem me from my sins. Thank You, that You sent ‘Hope’ into the world, along with ‘Healing’, ‘Forgiveness’, ‘Mercy’, ‘Grace’, and ‘Ultimate Love’. I give You honor, praise, and glory. Help me to stand firm in Your mighty power, to not be deceived. Help me to put on the armor of God, daily, and put Your Word in my heart, that I might not sin against You. I pray that sinners would repent and find Your forgiveness, turn from wickedness, and be healed. Send workers for the harvest! In the Name of Jesus, Amen.

Tangled in Sin:

caught in sin

Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord,

Acts 3:19

Can you imagine what fun this cat had playing with the ball of yarn?

That is like sin and us. We think it is pleasurable, until we find that we are wrapped up in guilt, remorse, sorrow, and a tangled web of terrible emotions.

The verse in Acts tells us to repent, turn to God, so that our sins might be wiped out, and times of refreshing might come from the Lord.

He truly does restore people. He even forgives the guilt of our sins! If you are struggling with your past sins, God is willing to ‘wipe them out’. You can ask Him for a new life, and to make you a new creature in Christ, and He is willing. He has the power to do it!

Dear God, there are many sinners that want to turn from their sins and be made new. I pray that they would find comfort in knowing that You are the One who will erase, wipe out, and completely forget, and forgive our sins, because of what Jesus did. I pray for Your intervention and presence and help in the lives of those men and women who want to be forgiven and changed. May they repent and find Your great, merciful forgiveness. May they be restored and renewed by Your grace, just as You have forgiven me, and made me whole. In the Precious Name of Jesus, Amen.

Virtues Contrasted With Vices:

love with action

I have an old King James Bible. At the top of each page is a short phrase that is a summary of what topic is covered. Above Proverbs 10, is the phrase, “Virtues Contrasted With Vices” . Here are a few:

Proverbs 10 Easy-to-Read Version (ERV)

Solomon’s Proverbs

10 These are the proverbs of Solomon:

A wise son makes his father happy; a foolish one makes his mother sad.

Wealth gained by doing wrong will not really help you, but doing right will save you from death.

The Lord takes care of good people and gives them the food they need, but he keeps the wicked from getting what they want.

Lazy hands will make you poor; hard-working hands will make you rich.

A son who works hard while it is harvest time will be successful, but one who sleeps through the harvest is worthless.

People say good things about those who live right, but the words of the wicked only hide their violent plans.

Good people leave memories that bless us, but the wicked are soon forgotten.

The wise accept instruction, but fools argue and bring trouble on themselves.

Honest people can always feel secure, but lying cheaters will be caught.

10 If you fail to speak the truth, trouble will follow. If you speak openly, peace will come.[a]

Solomon, with the wisdom God gave him, communicates to us how we are blessed for doing the right thing.

Then, He tells us what will happen when we act unjustly, lazy, wickedly, and with evil intent. Those unjust actions are met with harsh rewards, like destruction, a short life, broken dreams, and loss of value.

Our actions are important. They affect other people and ourselves. As Christians, we want to make a difference for good.

Dear God, I pray for wisdom, like Solomon, that I might know how to live the right way, in a way that pleases You, and brings You glory. I pray for workers for the harvest. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit, with Your Power, and protect me from the evil one. In Jesus’s Name, Amen.
