Repent, Be Changed for the Better!

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Acts 2:38

I would like to focus on the word repent for a moment. According to Dictionary.com: the word means:

to feel such sorrow for sin or fault as to be disposed to change one’s life for the better; be penitent. to remember or regard with self-reproach or contrition: to repent one’s injustice to another. to feel sorry for; regret

In the book of Acts, the disciples witnessed the full power of the Holy Spirit, when He appeared as cloven tongues of fire. All of a sudden, the men on whom the tongues fell, spoke in languages that men outside the house could understand. Devout Jews from many nations happened to be in Jerusalem, and could hear their own language. It was assumed that the men who were filled with the Spirit were drunk, but Peter explained that:

15 For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.

16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;

17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:

19 And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:

20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and notable day of the Lord come:

21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

I pray that God’s Spirit would descend on us, who are Christians, that we would be powerful, effective witnesses for Christ.

Dear God, I pray that men and women everywhere would hear the message of salvation, that they would repent, and be saved. I pray that the dead in sins would come to life with the saving power of Jesus Christ! I pray for Ambassadors who would faithfully proclaim Your word, and not shrink back. Keep us from being deceived, and may Your will be done. In the Precious Name of Jesus! Amen.

    • We are on a path of destruction. I am saddened to see what is happening to my country and the world. On a happier note, the darker the world gets, the brighter the light that shines in it. Thank you for commenting. I enjoyed visiting your blog. Many of the songs, I haven’t heard in years. You have a nice collection of music and articles. I definitely enjoy my morning coffee! I look forward to reading more of your posts.

  1. Reblogged this on Truth in Palmyra and commented:
    As readers may recall, we are currently studying the call of Jesus for repentance to some of the seven churches in Asia who He dispatched letters to. This great post on the need for repentance fits right in. Comments disabled here, so head over to Dawn’s place and share your thoughts.

    • Wally, thank you for reblogging this. The message of repentance has been on my heart, and it is something that we need to preach faithfully and repeatedly. I have been so busy, I barely have time to write, and the days seem shorter to me? I love all your quotes and devotions, and I love your thoughts and comments. Thanks, Wally!

    • Thank you for reblogging! The message of salvation is so important at this time. In this world. Many of the prophets made this message of repentance their life. Hosea, Jeremiah, Jonah, John the Baptist, all preached repentance, to save souls, and to bring people back to their Creator, God. Jesus not only called us to repentance, but paved the way for it. How wonderful the love of God, that He is willing to forgive sinners like me! Repentance leads to Amazing Grace!
