And seeing a fig tree by the road, He came to it and found nothing on it but leaves, and said to it, “Let no fruit grow on you ever again.” Immediately the fig tree withered away. Matthew 21:19
It is interesting to note that Jesus, the previous day, healed the blind and the lame who came to Him in the temple,.
The chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things He did, and they also saw the children crying out in the temple and saying, “Hosanna to the Son of David!”
The Bible says that the chief priests and scribes were indignant about it. Indignant is an adjective that means feeling or showing anger or annoyance at what is perceived as unfair treatment.
It bothered the religious leaders that little children were worshiping Jesus. Hosanna, according to the dictionary, is an interjection used to express praise or adoration to God. These little children in the temple were wiser than the religious leaders, in that they recognized Jesus for who He was.
The next day, when Jesus was hungry and saw this tree without fruit, that it was only full of leaves, possibly he was thinking of the scribes and religious leaders of the previous day? The ones who had all the pomp and political and religious correctness, but no fruit. They were only for show. It might be that Jesus was angered with just the appearance of a fig tree with all the leaves, and that it didn’t do what it was suppose to– bear fruit?
Anyway, his disciples were impressed at what happened to the fig tree, and Jesus told them that if they had faith, and didn’t doubt, they could even move mountains.
“And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.” Matthew 21:22
Thank You, Jesus, for healing and helping people while You were on earth, showing us Your power. Thank You that You continue to do that today. Little children worshiped You at the temple, and I want to lift up my praise to You too! You are worthy! Help Your people to bear fruit, and be healthy trees, alive with Your Spirit and love. Thank You! Amen.

The Day My Jesus Died
The day loomed black
As a dark cloud,
A man was led through the group,
Insults were shouted loud!
The sun’s warm light
Refused to shine,
The ground shook, the earth trembled,
Some said these were a sign.–
This Holy One
Was God’s own Son.
The earth groaned to break apart,
And some began to run.
A Soldier said,
That it was true,
Jesus, He was God’s Son, sure,
As a sword pierced through,
And flesh and blood
And water mixed.
Finished, — the Savior is dead,
Lives will never be fixed.
His body, it laid
In a cold tomb,–
Three days, until loved ones came,
–They found an empty room.
Angels appeared,
Said, “He isn’t here!
He has risen from the dead!”
This Savior Friend so dear.
The sun rose up
That very day,
For Jesus took all men’s sins,
And cast them far away.
A new day dawned
Love’s light shone bright
As sins were cast away,
And hearts were made right.
